Hamilton ref. 9988 "Poor Man's Daytona" Chronograph c.1990s
Hamilton ref. 9988 "Poor Man's Daytona" Chronograph c.1990s
Becoming a quite desirable piece in recent years, this 1990’s Hamilton ref. 9988 ‘panda’ chronograph is one fantastic watch. This particular piece is a beautiful white dial variant, and comes with a correct bracelet and original Hamilton box. Feel free to research these models and reach out to us if you have any questions at all!
Overall condition: VG+. Tachymeter bezel paint is almost entirely retained, along with case being in great honest shape. The dial and hands look fantastic.
Crystal (mineral): VG. As on most mineral crystal watches that are 30+ years old, there are some very light marks (I hesitate to say nicks or scratches, as they are much more minimal than what that tends to imply). The crystal was hand-buffed and those imperfections are almost too difficult to recognize unless held at an angle to light. Some people will not even notice these at all.
Movement: EX. Visually very clean and appearing as if untouched; running very well for us on the timing machine. Service history is unknown, but we see no imminent issues.
** The ‘90s were pre-sapphire times, so these watches did come with a mineral crystals. They are not always in perfect condition compared to modern sapphires, but this one is still in great shape. We’ve noticed one or two scratches on the crystal, which we have professionally polished, that do not affect the viewing of the watch. **
Movement: Valjoux 7750, 17 jewels, 18000bph)
Case: Solid stainless steel
Powered: Automatic chronograph
Case Width: 39.6mm w/o crown, 41.7mm w/ crown
Case Length: 44.7mm
Lug Width: 20mm

Function - This watch winds by the natural motion of your arm. Start by rotating the crown clockwise 10-15 revolutions to begin powering the watch. The chronograph function is initiated after winding by pressing the top pusher to start the timing, pressing the top pusher to stop, and pressing the bottom pusher again to reset the chronograph.
[All vintage watches are expected to function as described. However, due to age and generally unknown service history (unless otherwise stated), these watches may not keep time as accurately as new or quartz (battery) watches. This is completely normal and does not indicate that there is a major problem. Like your automobile, all mechanical watches will likely need to be serviced at some point in time. Please keep this in mind, as there is no guarantee regarding when these vintage watches may need standard maintenance. Every watch sold by Buying On Time is done so with the expectation that it is not currently in need of service or repair, unless noted. We guarantee that all watches sold are accurately described and in the stated condition when they leave our hands.]
