Universal Genève Unisonic ref. 853104 c.1970
There were a lot of cross-over and re-branded watches that popped up over the years, but for the tech geeks this one may hold a special place:
Universal Genève Unisonic watches using Bulova’s Accutron tuning fork movement technology to produce a Swiss-made chronometer (in this case, a diving chronometer!).
But don’t just take it from me; here’s what UG said in 1970 about it…
UNISONIC: world’s first All-Swiss deep diving and day-date tuning fork watches.
Unisonic’s incredibly tiny tuning fork—thenew “life force” of time—splits a second into 360 equal parts. It is practically indestructible. Not so with the old balance wheel it replaces. Unisonic hums. Conventional watches tick. “Vibrations from the Swiss” exclusively Universal!
Retailing in 1970 for $225 (or about $1,500 today), these tuning fork watches, like their American counterparts, were a scientific break-through in timekeeping—the most accurate watch in the world at the time.
This UG model has a beautiful coin-edge fluted bezel and that beefy screw-down diver crown. With a minimalist design and a smooth crafted stainless steel case, this example is about as good as you’ll find for this reference…that is, if you can find another one.

Function - This watch is battery operated. No daily operation needed. Batteries in these models last a year or less before they need to be replaced.
[All vintage watches are expected to function as described. However, due to age and generally unknown service history (unless otherwise stated), these watches may not keep time as accurately as new or quartz (battery) watches. This is completely normal and does not indicate that there is a major problem. Like your automobile, all mechanical watches will likely need to be serviced at some point in time. Please keep this in mind, as there is no guarantee regarding when these vintage watches may need standard maintenance. Every watch sold by Buying On Time is done so with the expectation that it is not currently in need of service or repair, unless noted. We guarantee that all watches sold are accurately described and in the stated condition when they leave our hands.]
