Square watches are oftentimes hit or miss; either the design holds up well, or it is largely avoided by most people. Once in a while some absolute gems come along—this is one of them.
A Bulova Excellence collection piece, this President ‘A’ with florentine finished case from 1968 is in essentially NOS condition with extremely light handling and case opening marks only. It looks like it’s never been worn to any significant amount whatsoever .
This beautiful timepiece has a silvery white sunburst dial, gold & black hands and faceted/embossed indices, and a bright electroplate gold case finish. At first glance of the specs, some would see the 32mm width and stop in their tracks—but that would be those unfamiliar with square cases. Most folks are used to how circular cases wear and feel in regards to size, where the horizontal diameter is generally measured as the widest point of the case; but with a square watch, the diagonal diemension—in this case 41mm—makes a 32 mm “wide” watch wear far bigger on the wrist.
