Seiko 6139-6005 Blue "Pogue" Chronograph c.1971
Seiko 6139-6005 Blue "Pogue" Chronograph c.1971
Even if you aren’t in Seiko circles, there’s a great chance you’re plenty familiar with the Seiko “Pogue” chronograph. Touted as the world’s first automatic chronograph to hit the production lines, these models draw their nickname from Col. William R. Pogue having worn the 6139-6002 into space on a NASA Skylab 4 mission in 1973. Since this finding was revealed, these models have only seen increasing popularity.
This particular model’s serial number dates it to 1971 production, with water RESISTant markings on both the dial and caseback. A beautiful navy blue dial shines with it’s wonderful condition hands and markers. A new, correct style glass crystal has been installed to greatly enhance your view of this piece. Some reasonably light wear on the original tachymeter bezel insert adds a nice vintage juxtaposition to a face and crystal that will bring you very near the view this piece had from the factory.

Function - This watch is wound by the natural movement of your body. It is recommended to rotate the watch by hand several times to get the watch running before you put the watch on your wrist. The proper motion would be putting your fingers around the outside of the case and twisting the watch in a circular motion, like you would when opening a doorknob.
[All vintage watches are expected to function as described. However, due to age and generally unknown service history (unless otherwise stated), these watches may not keep time as accurately as new or quartz (battery) watches. This is completely normal and does not indicate that there is a major problem. Like your automobile, all mechanical watches will likely need to be serviced at some point in time. Please keep this in mind, as there is no guarantee regarding when these vintage watches may need standard maintenance. Every watch sold by Buying On Time is done so with the expectation that it is not currently in need of service or repair, unless noted. We guarantee that all watches sold are accurately described and in the stated condition when they leave our hands.]
